GliderCup

Learning and training competition

Take part in the glider cup!

  • The Glider Cup is the learning and training competition at Schänis airfield.
  • You can take part as a licensed pilot in a single or two-seater.
  • It is also open to pilots with little or no cross-country flying experience. To ensure you get the support you need, you will be accompanied by a cross-country expert or instructor. After the briefing, teams of two are formed to fly the task together. You don't have to worry about being on the ground alone: The organisers make sure that everyone gets the chance to fly in a two-seater.
  • Even if you don't know what some of the following terms mean, you will learn all about cross-country flying during the Glider Cup.

What is the aim of the Glidercup?

  • Participants should be able to improve their skills under competitive conditions.
  • For inexperienced pilots, the Glidercup offers an attractive, supervised and safe introduction to cross-country flying. They benefit from the extensive expertise of experienced instructors and cross-country pilots.

What are the benefits of the Glidercup?

  • Expand your limits and get to know new flying areas. Flying with a new team mate will create new friendships.
  • Participation in the Glider Cup also counts as a level 3 cross-country flying course on the Lägern Pass, provided that you have attended the mountain flying theory course and have taken part in at least four Glider Cup two-seater flights, during which the flight instructor acts only as an advisor and safety pilot.

What requirements must I meet?

  • If you are flying with an instructor or a cross country pilot, there are no minimum requirements.
  • Requirements for single seat Glider Cup flights
    • Valid gliding licence
    • Completion of level 2 in the Lägern Pass
    • 30 gliding hours
    • Mountain flying theory
    • Area briefings: Zurich Oberland, Churfirsten, Glarus, Mythen
    • Approval of the class instructor
  • The four best results count towards the annual ranking. A valid licence is required for ranking points to be counted.

How does the Glidercup work?

  • To take part in the Glidercup you need to register once using the registration form.
  • Our communication channel is WhatsApp. We will publish information about each flight day.
  • Briefing for the Glidercup and announcement of the task at 08:30 at the airfield.
  • Participants will fly the task.
  • After landing the flight will be uploaded to WeGlide.
  • The event ends with a dinner on the terrace of the airfield restaurant, weather permitting. The day's flying and the participants' strategies will be analysed together.

How is the performance evaluated for the daily ranking?

  • You register your flight on WeGlide. If the flight is valid, an evaluation is made.
  • There are two different concepts, depending on whether the task has been completed or not. You can read more about this in the Glidercup rules.
